Privacy policy
ProtoStudio (protostudio.app) lets designers prototype real design-system interfaces with their own AI tools and share the result as a link. This page explains what information ProtoStudio collects, why, and what happens to it. ProtoStudio is operated by Marcus Lockwood in Australia.
What we collect
Your account. To sign in we need an email address. If you sign in with a 6-digit code, that is all we store. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your email address, whether it is verified, and your display name. We store the email and the name. We never see your Google password and we do not keep any Google access token, so ProtoStudio cannot read your Gmail, Drive, calendar or anything else in your Google account.
Prototypes you publish. When you publish a prototype, its code and settings (name, link, visibility, whether comments are allowed, any password you set) are stored so the link works. Prototypes you have not published stay on your own computer and are never uploaded.
Comments and feedback. Comments left on a published prototype are stored with the text, the time, the name of the person who left them (their account if signed in, or a name they typed), and where on the page the comment points.
Files in your connected folder. The editor reads and writes files in a folder you choose, using your browser's file access permission. Those files are read in your browser only. ProtoStudio writes a few small helper files into that folder (design-system rules and a status file for your AI tool). Nothing from the folder leaves your computer unless you publish it.
Usage counters. We keep simple counts, such as how many times a published prototype was viewed or how many prototypes were published in a day, so we can see whether the product is being used. These are counts per workspace, not a record of what any one person did.
Technical data. Like any website, our hosting provider receives your IP address and browser details when you load a page. We use the IP address briefly to limit abuse (for example, too many sign-in attempts). Those limits expire within an hour and are not tied to your account.
Cookies
ProtoStudio sets one cookie to keep you signed in for up to a year, and one short-lived cookie during Google sign-in to make sure the login completes in the same browser that started it. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your prototypes and settings attached to your account.
- To serve the prototype links you share, and to show comments people leave on them.
- To send you a sign-in code by email when you ask for one.
- To understand overall usage and to prevent abuse.
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.
Who else sees it
- Cloudflare hosts ProtoStudio, stores its data and sends the sign-in emails.
- Google handles the sign-in if you choose "Continue with Google". Google's own privacy policy applies to that step.
- Anyone you share a link with can see that published prototype, and its comments if comments are turned on. Prototypes marked internal are only visible to people signed in to the same workspace.
Fonts on some pages are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google receives the request for the font file.
Keeping and deleting it
Published prototypes and comments stay until you delete them from "My sites" in the editor. Sign-in sessions expire after a year, or sooner if you sign out. If you want your account and everything attached to it removed, email the address below and it will be done.
Your choices
You can use ProtoStudio with an email code and never connect a Google account. You can unpublish or delete a prototype at any time, turn comments off per prototype, and disconnect a folder from the editor whenever you like.
Children
ProtoStudio is a tool for working designers and is not directed at children under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. Significant changes will be mentioned in the product.
